Who needs a face when you’ve got emoji?
Replacing your expressions with emojis. The piece intends to expose how digital technologies often approximate our emotions and portray them in exaggerated ways.
I made WNAFWYGE with Processing, a creative coding platform. My programme uses Kyle McDonald’s FaceOSC face tracking software to read metrics from a person's face. It then translates changes in these values into emoji facial expressions, overlaid on a webcam image. Your own facial expressions are therefore mirrored (or approximated) onto a screen in front of you.
